  Well, sexcess it ain’t.

We arranged to meet at 8 pm at the station. It usually takes about an hour from my house to the station so I gave myself 2 hours. Sure enough, I got there an hour early and ended up waiting for her for an hour.

As 8 pm approached, I got more and more nervous.

  She’s a no-show at 8.

She turned up five minutes later. I saw her in the distance.

From the moment I saw her, she picked up speed and quickly walked towards me.

  Man, I’m forgetting already

‘I’m so sorry I’m late,’ were the first words out of her mouth

To which I replied, ‘No worries, no worriezzmng,’

Maybe I was a bit funny. My nerves were crazy.

She was and, dude, I mean she really was a lot cuter than I remembered her . . .

AND SHE REALLY DRESSED UP FOR THE OCCASION . . .

looked a lot younger than I remembered, too.

  Quite girly. I could say blooming . . .

Then I said, ‘Hello. It’s nice to see you again,’ and she gave a bow.

‘It’s nice to see you, too, and thank you so much for the other day.’

  I bowed back.

When we’d got that over with, we decided to head for the restaurant. I was crazy nervous about walking alongside a woman.

When I walked at my usual pace, she ended up a few steps behind. Women walk slower than men. This is news to me. All I know is I felt kind of uneasy trying to pace myself, making sure I was walking in step with her.

Not only that, but the idea of someone like her walking with someone like me . . . I kept thinking everybody was looking at me and thinking about how weird we must look together . . .

I talked with her on the way to the restaurant but I only remember one thing . . .

What I remember are her words. She said, ‘With you, I feel protected on the train.’ The moment she said this, I felt my heart skip a beat.

Apparently, women are a bit afraid of taking trains, especially during the crowded morning commute. Take for example that old drunk from the other night. But with me by her side, she said she feels protected. I came out with a stupid whiny laugh. No way could I come up with something cooler to say . . .

We got off the train, left the station and walked towards the restaurant. There were tons of people around the station.

Saturdays, I guess. I kept one step ahead of her but kept turning around to make sure she was behind me. I must have been turning around every 15 seconds. It occurred to me then that I’ve always walked behind people. Never ahead. It was weird to be walking ahead.

‘Boy it’s crowded today, isn’t it?’

‘I suppose it’s because of the weekend.’

We made our way through the crowd.

I kept turning around to check she was behind me.

She noticed and said, ‘Don’t worry so much.’

To which I wittily replied ‘Really?’

  THEN she said

‘I’LL JUST HOLD ON TO YOU TIGHTLY’

  and reached for my wrist.

I was so freaked out that my body twitched in response.

This could very well be the first time a woman actually touched me . . .

  And what’s that softness all about . . .

  ‘Oops, I’m sorry’

She let go of my wrist as soon as she felt my body twitch.

‘Oh, no. I’m sorry. It’s all right’

It was too late by the time I said this.

‘No, it’s my fault for grabbing you so suddenly.’

Well, could you please grab my hand. Or better still, hold my hand, I wanted to say.

In the end she never grabbed my hand after that.

We get to the restaurant. Of course since I made a reservation, we glide right in.

It feels cool to walk through a crowded room.(▪∀▪)

Once we’re sat down she says

  ‘this place has great ambience.’

‘It’s nice isn’t it. I like it too.’

Sorry. It’s only my second time there.

The menu arrived and she asked

  ‘What do you recommend?’

So I recommended what I ordered the last time I was there.

Since I thought it tasted all right in a basic kinda way.

We were ordering our drinks and when I ordered a beer she quickly took another look at the menu and ordered a beer too.

‘Sorry. Didn’t think you were going to drink.’ ‘No, no, sorry I must have forced you into a drink.’

No idea what we talked about while we waited for our food. No surprises, she kept mentioning the train incident. ‘Just as I thought, you are such an earnest guy.’

  Or

‘Are you the type that can’t sit back when confronted by some kind of “wrong” behaviour?’

I think it went something like that.

  Once the food came out,

  ‘This is delicious’

and stuff like that . . . hmm, don’t know if I managed to keep the conversation jumping . . .

  slipped my mind

‘Hmm. You look a little different?’

or something like that. When we were moving about.

  I said

  ‘Yes . . . I did my very best’

I figured I had to reply. At least

She replied ‘I think it’s a good look.’

587 Name: Train Man ♦ SgHguKHEFY Post Date: 28/03/04 01:43

  After we scoffed our food

‘Do you come to places like this a lot?’ she said. We were done with the food and it was turning into a we’re gonna talk kind of vibe, weighing heavily on me as she glanced over, making me mad nervous . . .

‘It’s only recently that I’ve taken an interest in places like this’ I came clean.

‘Really? I love hunting around for places like this,’ she replied.

‘Is this the kind of place that’s hot nowadays?’

I think some of the info from the guide came in handy . . . I think?

She started talking about some restaurants she liked.

Apparently she likes searching for hip new restaurants.

Maybe that’s just a chick thing?

But one of her best mates who she used to go restaurant hopping with just got a boyfriend so she hardly ever goes out anymore. So she really enjoyed her time out with me, she said.

We were finally getting used to chatting but the place was really crowded. There was a slight shift in the air that seemed to point at the commotion in the place and she seemed to sense it. ‘Well shall we,’ she said and called the waiter over.

I didn’t know what I was hoping for but inside I was let down thinking that the night was going to end . . . or so I thought.

When the waiter came over she said

‘I only have large bills so let me just pay for it’ and quickly took care of the bill. My plan was to quickly slide my big bill over to her but . . .

‘I’ll pay you for my portion later then’ I told her.

After we left the restaurant, we started walking to nowhere in particular not saying anything. I tried to suss out whether she was thinking of going home.

We walked for a while then

‘It’s still early isn’t it?’ she said.

  Inside, I was all

  Ahyeah------!

I checked my watch and it was only a bit after 9.

I asked her ‘Um, do you have a curfew?’ I thought I was being considerate.

  ‘Aha-hah-hah’ she laughed.

But I got to see her smile so it was all good.

‘I’m way past curfew age but thanks for asking’ she replied.

  Damn it. Did it again.

‘There’s a place nearby that I like. Do you want to go there for a bit?’

  ahyeah comin atcha!

  ‘Sure. That’d be great.’

  So off we went.

‘Let me pay my share for dinner’ I said and handed her about 70% of the
total bill. She took it and said

‘This is a little too much’ and gave some back

‘But I was the one that asked you out . . .’ I said, urging her to keep it.

‘I guess you won’t listen even if I argue’

and she quickly (?) took all the money. I may have been too persistent.

  Train Man, take me now.

663 Name: Train Man ♦ SgHguKHEFY Post Date: 28/03/04 02:24

Since we were already full we went to this place where we would be able to just do drinks and snacks and man, this place was much hipper-looking than where we had just come from. I thought I wouldn’t even be allowed in. She had been there a few times. I thought that the place matched her vibe.

We sat down and looked through the menu. She was going to order wine and some appetisers. I looked through the menu and couldn’t find anything I could order so I ended up with wine and a cheese thing, both of which I’m not used to eating or drinking.

  ‘This place is so cool-looking.’

I said it hoping to sound like I was admiring her taste.

‘Yeah it is. I kind of like it here.’

She seemed to be enjoying herself. I was very uncomfortable.

We milked the restaurant topic for as long as we could then

‘Are you ever told that you look like a celebrity?’ I asked, even though I don’t really know many.

‘What? No, not really. But my friends say I look like a Moomin.’

I almost fell off my chair because cartoon characters are not celebrities, I wanted to tell her but I kept it in.

  ‘aaaaa . . .’

I made as if I was agreeing.

  Moomin . . . hmmm . . . she may in fact, look like Moomin . . .
